adult ventral thoracic neurosecretory neuron []

Adult neurosecretory neuron with its soma in the ventral part of the ventral nerve cord and an axonal projection to the dorsal ventral nerve cord, where it has neurosecretory sites (Lindquist and Nassel, 1990). Processes also run anteroposteriorly in the medial dorsal ventral nerve cord and it has an ascending projection to the anterior subesophageal zone (Lindquist and Nassel, 1990). There is one of these per thoracic hemineuromere (Lindquist and Nassel, 1990). Lindquist and Nassel (1990) identified an additional large pair of somas (referred to as accessory SPLI neurons/mesothoracic accessory cells) stained in the mesothoracic neuromere, but could not see processes, so unclear whether these are another pair of VTNCs.
